Movement Tier List

Movement is the real meta in Venture AOT. Skills sit on top. This list ranks habits, not cosmetics. It is the sister page to the skill tier list and the long form of how to swing.

S — release, hook, reel

Fire Q or E at a high facade, release WASD, keep the cable, reel with Space or middle mouse, alternate hooks before slack. This is the style every physics clip is trying to teach. It spends the least fuel per block and arrives at napes with a tank left. Details in ODM controls and gas management.

Add a feathered Shift at the apex only. That still counts as S. Holding Shift through the whole street does not.

A — building jungle gym

Never crossing plazas. Three anchors planned. Roofs as checkpoints. G after every block. This is slower than S visually and faster than S on a stingy shard. Perfect for squad play because teammates can predict your height.

Ground hooks that lift you into a reel also sit in A if you do not scrape. They sit in D if you keep W down.

B — recovery boosts

You took a bad angle, popped a short Shift to rotate behind a titan, then went back to reel. This is the honest version of “dash recovery” from other AOT games. It is B because it costs fuel and because people turn it into spam. Use it to save a nape, not to travel.

Gas Burst as a movement tool lives here as a button, S as a skill rank. The habit of bursting every roof is B trending to C.

C — W-hold arcade

Imported from titles where holding forward is flying. Here it dips you, then you pay gas to climb. It looks busy and dies in open air. Unlearn it on the courtyard drill in getting started.

Titan-as-travel (hooking flesh to commute) is also C: it works until a hand exists.

D — Shift lifestyle and scripted fly

Holding Left Shift from spawn to the first kill. Boosting on cobbles. Noclip. Walkspeed injects. These are not playstyles; they are how you skip the game or skip the account. See script safety.

Mode modifiers

  • More gas patch: C-tier W-hold looks less fatal. It is still C. You are practicing a habit testers can nerf overnight.
  • Non-gas swing test: S-tier reel becomes even more dominant because the thing you already do well gets cheaper. D-tier fly hacks remain D.
  • New map verticality: A-tier jungle gym rises. Plazas on the map update punish C-tier hard.

How to climb a rank this week

  1. One session with Shift unbound. If you can still cross two blocks, you are entering S.
  2. Bind middle mouse reel and use it on every catch.
  3. Log deaths: grass, grab, or empty. Grass means W-hold. Empty means Shift. Grab means you hooked a titan too early.
  4. Only then buy Burst. Buttons do not promote a D-tier habit to S.

When this list disagrees with a clip, trust the tank. G is the referee. Keep the controls reference open while you retrain. Movement ranks change slower than skill ranks because physics is the pitch of the whole project — see updates if a solver patch actually ships.

A rank-up week you can actually finish

Monday: Shift unbound, two blocks, write the tank number. Tuesday: middle-mouse reel only. Wednesday: no flesh hooks at all. Thursday: one titan, travel on buildings, blind, leave. Friday: allow one apex Shift. Saturday: squad play at a named height. Sunday: read gas management and decide if you earned Burst as a movement tool or still as a crutch.

If you skip to Friday on day one, you stay in C. The list is not a vibe. It is a week of not holding W.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Venture AOT questions.

What is the best movement style in Venture AOT?

Release WASD, keep the hook, reel, and alternate Q/E. Boost only at the top of an arc.

Is holding W ever good?

Almost never on a live cable. It dips you and taxes gas. Walk on roofs if you need a break.

Do scripts count as S-tier movement?

No. They are unranked on purpose and unsafe. This list is for players.
