How to Kill Titans in Venture AOT

Blind, immobilize, then one clean neck cut.

How to Kill Titans

Killing a titan in Venture AOT is a timing problem wearing a horror costume. The nape is still the nape. The difference is that sloppy approaches get you grabbed because the ODM physics will not auto-correct a bad angle. If your swing is still a W-hold across plazas, go back to how to swing. This page assumes you can plant Q/E, reel, and arrive behind a neck with gas left.

The trainee sequence (do this even after you unlock skills)

Creators who reset their skills on purpose still play the trainee sequence:

  1. Blind the titan. Take the eyes so the head stops tracking you like a turret.
  2. Immobilize. A staggering titan is a nape you can actually aim at.
  3. One clean cut on the neck. Strike at the moment the nape is open. If you have to hit twice, your timing was late or your angle was a side slash.
  4. Leave. Do not hover in the hand hitbox celebrating.

“You are not Levi yet” is not flavor text. It is the whole early skill build. Ego is how you donate blades to a miss and then press R in shame.

Why double hits happen

Players swear they hit the nape and the titan lives. Two usual causes:

  • You slashed the shoulder or hair volume, not the nape box. Arrive from behind and slightly above, not from a side grind.
  • You slashed early while the head was still turning. Blind first so the box stays still.

Saving a grabbed teammate with a panic neck tap feels heroic and often does zero. Set up the cut. If you cannot set up, disengage, land, G, and try a different titan. Squad play only works when someone calls “blinded” instead of four people carving calves.

Approach angles that do not feed you to a hand

Travel on buildings until you are in the titan’s rear quarter. Then:

  • Fire a hook into the upper back or a nearby facade, not the palm.
  • Reel to nape height. If you undershoot, a short Shift boost can rotate you — the same idea as a recovery, not a ram.
  • Release stick so the solver does not yank you into the ribcage.
  • Slash once. If it did not die, you do not spam; you reset the angle.

Hooking the titan as a travel cable is how you become a necklace. Buildings are safe anchors. Flesh is a combat target. That split is also why scripts that “auto nape lock” from other AOT games fail here: the hit volume and the physics solver are not Revolution’s.

Blades, R, and not fighting walls

Blades break. When they do, R puts a pair back. Do not keep left-clicking stone during a missed approach — that is how you arrive at a nape with air. If you are empty in a bad plaza, land, R, G, and take the long way on rooftops. There is no shame in a roof reload. There is shame in a grab because you wanted one more swing.

Skills that actually help the kill

Spend points on Gas Burst first so you can take a second angle after a miss. Damage skills look better in montages and worse when you cannot reach the neck. Costs double after the first two unlocks, so a vanity slash as purchase three is how you stall your account. Full order lives on unlock skills and the skill tier list.

If you already blew points, do not reset your brain. Play the trainee sequence until the new skill is a bonus, not a crutch.

Target priority in Freeplay

Not every titan is worth the tank:

  • Isolated, blinded, back to a wall: yes.
  • Packed in a street with three sets of hands: no, unless a squad has roles.
  • Between you and spawn while you are on fumes: kite to architecture, do not duel.

Closed Community Lore Mode may add rules, grab timers, or denser spawns. Watch closed testing notes before you assume Freeplay habits transfer.

A honest practice plan

Ten titans, not infinite grind:

  • Titans 1–3: blind only. Leave.
  • Titans 4–7: blind + one nape attempt. Land whether it died or not.
  • Titans 8–10: full sequence, no Shift spam, check G after each.

Log what killed you: gas, grab, or miss. Gas problems go to gas management. Grab problems go to how to swing. Miss problems stay on this page — slower approaches, more blinds, fewer hero clips.

When that plan is boring, you are ready to spend points and to read players for loadouts. Until then, every titan is a nape exam, not a loot pinata. Venture AOT does not pay you for looking busy.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Venture AOT questions.

Why did my nape hit not kill?

You likely hit too early or from the side. Blind first, arrive behind and above, and cut once at the open neck.

Should I save teammates with a panic slash?

Only if you already have the angle. A late calf slap does not break a grab and wastes blades.

What do I press when blades break?

R restores a pair. Land first if you can so you are not empty in a titan’s face.

Is there a one-shot skill I should rush?

No. Buy Gas Burst first so you can take a second angle. Damage skills wait until you can reach the nape on demand.
